Where does this data come from, and how valid is it?
The Global Gazetteer is based on many public sources of information. Each source of information has distinct characteristics; age of data, what counts as worthy of an entry, areas where they have many entries and areas where they have relatively few.
- Geonet - http://earth-info.nga.mil/gns/html/ . Geonet is the primary source for city names outside the US. They ask that the following citation be included: 'Toponymic information is based on the Geographic Names Database, containing official standard names approved by the United States Board on Geographic Names and maintained by the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency. More information is available at the Products and Services link at www.nga.mil. - Openstreetmap (OSM) - http://www.openstreetmap.org. Openstreetmap is a large effort to get geographical information from around the world. The Global Gazetteer uses data within OSM to complement the Geonet data.

- National Weather Service/NOAA TBD The US National Weather Service provides global weather forecasts used in this site. They are constantly improving their forecasts.
